We invest in a broad range of research on issues important to New Zealand, and support the development of health research careers. Our mission is 'benefiting New Zealand through health research'.
Researcher Initiated Proposals
The majority of HRC funding is awarded through the annual contestable funding round to research ideas that are researcher initiated.
A competitive process ensures that high quality and relevant research is supported across four Research Investment Streams, which include biomedical, clinical, public health, health services, Māori health and Pacific health research sectors. The HRC does not fund research that is not relevant to health outcomes or which is primarily operational or management focused.
