Lay summary
Our project at Mangatoatoa pā investigates the impact of a suite of hauora initiatives that have been designed with the specific needs of those who affiliate to Mangatoatoa pā. Over the past few years, the whare hauora has provided clinical services that are tailored to the needs of whānau and hapū, to improve access to culturally responsive care. Through interviews and data analysis of tailored surveys, we will explore how these clinics and associated health initiatives affect whānau engagement in healthcare. Our goal is to understand how accessing healthcare at Mangatoatoa pā enhances individuals’ belonging, and connectedness while also promoting better health outcomes. We aim to demonstrate the value that targeted healthcare brings to whānau hapū and communities. Given the programme is still in its first few years, through this research, we also aim to support the whare hauora to seek solutions to potential barriers that they may have observed.
