Lay summary
Evidence from the literature suggests that diet is a promising means to manage inflammatory intestinal disorders such ulcerative colitis (UC). However, guidance for the use of nutrition therapy in UC is lacking in the NZ healthcare sector. As part of this career development award, Dr Nasef will: develop a summary around effective nutrition therapy for patients with UC; generate feedback from healthcare providers and patients around how nutrition therapy could be effectively and equitably implemented in practice and; evaluate the success of implementing nutrition therapy in NZ healthcare. The research findings will progress Dr Nasef’s career in health delivery research and promote the appropriate use of nutrition therapy for patients with UC.
