Lay summary
A recent review of the (limited) international literature identified no New Zealand research on Takatāpui Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, Trans, Queer, Intersex, + (TLGBTQI+) older adults’ views on palliative and end-of-life care. Nor have we uncovered research about TLGBTQI+ older adults views on assisted dying in this country. The exploration of these issues will serve as a critical first step to making a significant contribution to palliative and end-of-life health delivery research for TLGBTQI+ older adults, both locally and internationally. The project’s goals are: (1) identify TLGBTQI+ older adults’ priorities for palliative and end-of-life care including assisted dying; (2) identify people and organisations interested in working collaboratively to design a study appropriate for an HRC Project Grant and, pending funding opportunities, an MBIE Ageing Well National Science Challenge grant; and (3) explore methods for translating the research findings into creative arts resources and disseminating them.
