Novel coronavirus-19 (COVID-19) has had a dramatic impact on the health and well-being of Māori since the arrival to the shores of Aotearoa in early 2020. This has been increasingly prevalent with later strains of the virus such as the Delta strain. This initial study seeks to lay the foundations for investigating the experiences of Māori who contracted COVID-19 within the supportive radius of Papakura Marae Health Clinic and the wider impact on whānau from a health, financial, social and cultural perspective. The research will be led by an emerging researcher who provided care as a team member invested in the well-being of COVID positive whānau through Papakura Marae. The intended outcome of this research is to establish relationships with key stakeholders involved in the care of Māori who contracted COVID-19 and for whom care was provided by Papakura Marae.
