Lay summary
Taufa's 5G model was developed in response to my PhD on Pacific teenage pregnancy in New Zealand where intra-ethnic variations among Tongan teenage mothers were explored. The model describes five key learnings from my thesis that will help health service providers work more effectively with our Pacific communities. The five key areas that make up the 5G’s model are fundamental to explore if Tongan context (relating to wellbeing) and inter-generational communication is to be better understood, especially in a digital era. The 5G’s include an awareness of differences based on (1) gender (2) geographical location (3) generational differences (4) God beliefs, and (5) genetics. This publication will highlight the importance of establishing context when working directly with our most vulnerable communities.
