Lay summary
Rheumatic heart disease (RHD) is a preventable condition and experts such as WHO have emphasised the importance of eradicating RHD’s antecedent, rheumatic fever (RF). School-based health clinics (SBHC) have been rolled out in New Zealand and various other countries as a means of RF prevention. Our systematic review aims to gather and analyse existing research about the outcomes of SBHS toward reducing RF for children aged 5-12 globally. The qualitative review will aim to analyse child and family voice about SBHS through semi-structured and structured interviews. The results of this research will give us a picture of the impact of SBHS on RF and highlight patterns, gaps, and outcomes for improvement in New Zealand.
