Lay summary
Maori recruitment into nursing has remained static at 6-7% for the past 3-4 decades. This research intends to investigate the possible reasons for this, by asking Maori student nurses, Maori registered nurses and key stakeholders their views on the possible reasons. We anticipate that this research will identify the issues related to policy, education, practice and regulation and find ways to increase the numbers of Maori wanting to become nurses.
