The Sedation, TEmperature and Pressure Cardiac Arrest and REsuscitation (STEPCARE) trial is a 3,500 participant clinical trial designed to answer the following research questions: “Among adults with suspected brain injury after resuscitation from out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (participants) …does a deep sedation target (intervention #1), a feedback controlled device to target a body temperature of <37.8°C (intervention #2), and a mean arterial blood pressure target greater than 85mmHg (intervention #3) …compared to early awakening (comparator #1), temperature management without a device (comparator #2), and a mean arterial blood pressure target of >65mmHg (comparator #3) respectively …reduce day 180 mortality (primary outcome)?”
