Lay summary
The aim of the research is to understand, develop and implement culturally appropriate guidelines that ensure the conceptualisation and implementation of digital health tools are acceptable for Pacific peoples. The research will also use a case study approach focusing on Niue Island. Niue Island residents, healthcare providers, and relevant stakeholders will be engaged to understand the potential role of digital health tools in managing one’s health and wellbeing, in addition to accessing healthcare between Niue and Aotearoa. By addressing these research areas, this research aims to propose practical and tailored solutions that leverage digital health tools to improve healthcare, healthcare access, coordination, and continuity for Pacific communities, including Niue communities who travel between Niue and Aotearoa. The focus on Niue Island as a case study allows for a context-specific exploration that can generate insights and recommendations applicable to other transnational or remote Pacific communities facing similar healthcare challenges.
