Lay summary
The Rapua te Mārama COVID-19 study team produced a book of participant research findings featuring bereaved whānau participants' stories and photographs about dying and tangihanga during the COVID-19 Lockdowns. The book was written last year by editors; PI Dr Tess Moeke-Maxwell and CI Mrs Kat Mason. Our research participants received a copy as a koha for sharing their pūrākau (stories) and whakaahua (photographs) during our project's dissemination activities in 2022. Whānau have since requested additional books for their communities. This application is for funding to publish additional books to share with ALL NZ hospices, Māori hauora and public libraries. These resources are needed to inform whānau about Māori end of life tikanga (cultural care customs), and how to adjust and adapt those customs to care for someone who is at the end of their life, and dies, during a national pandemic.
