Health Delivery Research Activation Grant
Lay summary
In-office assessment of driving safety has been described as one of the most challenging aspects of dementia care in general practice. This activation grant will prepare the groundwork for a health delivery research programme to improve the accuracy, equity, and experience of driving assessment and management for people living with cognitive impairment. The activation project will bring together the international literature and engagement with stakeholders to collaboratively design a toolkit for general practice. The kit will provide a tool to help GPs to assess and make decisions about driving safety and it will also provide resources to facilitate person-centred communication and management plans. The project will pilot (try out) this toolkit. This will provide a foundation for the larger research programme that will assess the efficacy of the tool, including how accurately it concurs with the results of an on-road driving assessment.
