Lay summary
Pasifika communities in Aotearoa New Zealand face longstanding inequities in both mental and physical health outcomes. Consultation with Pasifika is vital in conducting culturally safe and responsive health and psychology research. Despite growing consensus about its importance, little is formally available to help guide researchers in this process. This research is a literature review to understand what is currently known and available about Pasifika consultation in health and psychology research and the consultation practices which have been employed involving and impacting on Pasifika communities and where gaps may exist. Findings from this research will set the foundation for the development of the Pasifika Health Psychology Consultation Guideline to support researchers and community stakeholders in navigating the consultation process and conducting research with Pasifika communities.
