Lay summary
We will use qualitative research methods to investigate the models of care provided to Pacific patients with long term conditions in general practice. We focus on the patient and family in order to understand how their worldviews and social context influences patient engagement, or not, with health care and recommendations for treatment and lifestyle changes. We will explore factors associated with Pacific identity as part of the context for patient and family decision making. We will also explore the perspectives of general practice teams and the context for service delivery. Our aim is to contribute evidence to guide development of primary health care practice in ways that can be expected to enhance services for Pacific people with long term conditions, and their families.
