Lay summary
In New Zealand a number of recent gout interventions and studies have aimed at improving the uptake of urate lowering therapy (ULT) from a systems level by providing improved access and education to gout patients. Workshops with the community have highlighted that there is still a gap in Pacific awareness and understanding around gout and ULT particularly in Pacific men whom are considered ‘hard to reach’. Therefore, this research aims to co-design with Pacific men aged ≥18 years a new intervention to improve Pacific men's awareness and understanding of gout and ULT. This project will have a quantitative survey aiming to quantify how wide the gap is in awareness and understanding. Co-design workshops will be delivered with Pacific men to co-create a new educational intervention to improve Pacific men’s understanding of gout and ULT. Finally this intervention will be launched and disseminated.
