Professor Paul Young is an intensive care specialist at Wellington Hospital and an internationally recognised expert in intensive care medicine and in clinical trial design. He has conducted research investigating oxygen therapy, intravenous fluid therapy, intensive care unit (ICU) physiotherapy, management of life-threatening infections, management of traumatic brain injury, prevention of stomach ulcers in critically ill patients, blood transfusion, nutrition, and prevention and treatment of fever. This fellowship will provide support for him to continue conducting high-quality clinical research designed to improve the outcomes of critically ill patients. In particular, he will focus on research investigating the optimal approach to providing oxygen therapy in patients receiving life support in the ICU.
