Lay summary
MSD statistics illustrate that Māori make up over 60% of all social benefit recipients in Northland. The over-representation of Māori in these statistics warrant a Māori-led approach to employment, and one that responds to the issues underlying these statistics. Oranga whānau is a kaupapa Māori response to this situation, and fully embraces kaupapa Māori praxis through its philosophy, the delivery, and the way we measure outcomes for whānau Māori. Most importantly, Oranga whānau emphasises the personal wellbeing and development required for Māori to remain in employment and economically secure.
This activation grant will support the development of a real-time monitoring, evaluation and impact assessment framework, with the intention to scale up Oranga whānau as a culturally acceptable solution to overcoming economic disparity in Tai Tokerau.
