Lay summary
We are applying for funding to develop and assess an ehealth digital application to meet the needs of Maori and Pasifika patients in New Zealand. At this stage, the app provides individualised content for patients, allows them to correspond with healthcare providers, and collects data across the patient experience. This next stage of development will involve engaging with Maori and Pasifika patients, clinicians, and translation teams to co-design the app. The subsequent pilot study will use Kaupapa Maori principles, as well as mixed qualitative and quantitative methods, to assess the impact of the culturally specific content on the patients’ perspective and engagement with the app. The study results will help to make the app more accessible for Maori and Pasifika patients, optimise the content of the app, and will contribute to a larger HRC service delivery study to examine how this ehealth app can improve patient outcomes.
