Lay summary
Te Tai Tokerau has clear aspirations to develop, lead and conduct our own health research by, for and about Te Tai Tokerau communities – requiring a sufficiently capable Kaupapa Māori research network. However, at present, there is a lack of well-resourced collaboration between Tai Tokerau research stakeholders and communities. Further, purposeful and accessible training opportunities in Tai Tokerau are required for research stakeholders to build Māori-specific knowledge and skills. This Kaupapa Māori Ngā Kanohi Kitea Training Grant aims to deliver up to three, 3-4-day cultural training wānanga to Māori community researchers, postgraduate students, and health researchers in Te Tai Tokerau. This training will build capability in te reo, tikanga and Tai Tokerau-specific Mātauranga Māori, as well as knowledge about Kaupapa Māori research, career planning and grant applications. The project aims to build whakapapa-based kaupapa Māori research skills, and foster collaborative Tai Tokerau networks between researchers, communities and health sectors
