In 2022, as the country began their first nationwide celebration of Matariki, our rōpū in Te Tai Tokerau began a series of wānanga held at various Northland marae to celebrate the rising of Matariki and Puanga. This wānanga series, we called Te Rawenga, emerged from the desire of our Tai Tokerau communities to pass on kōrero tuku iho and provide guidance for our people to thrive as whānau, hapū and Iwi. This proposal will enable us to 1) continue to develop the Te Rawenga kaupapa, 2) explore the impact of Te Rawenga wānanga on the oranga, hauora, mana motuhake and tinorangatiratanga of Tai Tokerau whānau, and 3) develop (with the community) a set of tools and resources (digital and physical) to help whānau to thrive.
