Lay summary
This application proposes the design and visual illustration of the Nesian Narratives Toolkit—a culturally grounded educational resource aimed at strengthening Pacific child wellbeing. Distinct from traditional text-heavy research reports, this output translates research findings, shaped by talanoa with over 50 Pacific stakeholders into a visually engaging format. Co-designed with Pacific ECE educators and a community researcher, the toolkit includes 13 themed “Voyages” introducing developmentally appropriate concepts like body safety and emotional resilience. Funding is specifically sought to commission illustrations from Pacific artists and for graphic layout that embeds cultural narratives, enhances comprehension, and improves accessibility across literacy levels and learning styles. Launched digitally at the NZARE Conference, the toolkit will be distributed via Moana Connect and University of Auckland networks. Offered in both full PDF and modular formats, it represents a transformative shift from academic reporting to an actionable, community-facing resource.
