Lay summary
We propose a case review of the advocacy pathway for the screening age for bowel cancer to be lowered for Māori. There is a need for documentation and sharing of methods that enable Māori to change government direction in order to save Māori and Pasifika lives. There has been very little published in this priority area. There is also a need to share and celebrate the Māori cancer control win that saw a 10 year reduction of the screening age for Māori in the face of fierce resistance from those in charge of cancer control in Aotearoa. Publishing this journey will ensure methods for pushing through this change are captured, defined, and shared, and that Māori success is celebrated. This will help give others hope to keep up their important Māori health advocacy work and provide more tools to increase their chances of success.
