The Ngā Paerewa Health and Disability Services standard is being implemented, with the first audits scheduled for late 2022. The standard requires inclusion of Māori in decision-making and implementation across District Health Board (DHB) services. This is critical to meet the intent of the standard in relation to governance and service provision, and to ensure equity of experience and outcomes for Māori.
With this grant, we will develop collaborative relationships locally with whānau Māori and Crown partners in DHB (or future Health NZ and the Māori Health Authority) and the standards sector to confirm research team membership. We will develop a Kaupapa Māori methodology to inform engagement with the sector and progress ōritetanga – equity for Māori.
Together, we will identify priorities for a health delivery research programme aimed at furthering partnership with Māori at all levels of the implementation and achievement of the Ngā Paerewa standard.
