Lay summary
The dissemination of adult koeke stories adapted into children’s books will reach out to the tamariki/rangatahi audience to share the philosophies and values, reflections, and words of wisdom in story form, thereby inspiring, motivating and guiding tamariki/rangatahi in their experiences of Te Ao o Ngāti Pikiao, and Te Ao Māori, and informing them for their future roles as koeke and iwi cultural ambassadors. It will encourage and support them to identify and understand the benefits that can be gained from cultural – marae, hapū and iwi – participation and service, and become aware of the roles and responsibilities that protect, maintain, and sustain our culture now and in the future. To this end, it will ensure that successive generations of positively aging Ngāti Pikiao people will keep Ngāti Pikiao marae, the cultural home of the iwi, alive, well and functioning according to our tikanga, kawa and wisdom.
