Lay summary
Communication design can play a significant role in the way information and research is presented, translated, and understood. Knowledge transmission through good design and imagery can communicate information and research in ways that are culturally appropriate and specific to whānau Māori. More importantly, in ways that make the information understandable, accessible, and useful to the participants. My Master's research will be positioned within a Kaupapa Māori project focused on whānau violence prevention and harm reduction. It will undertake co-construction wananga with whānau to listen and gather their stories, experiences and solutions as the basis to develop with them a Māori whānau violence prevention approach. My project will develop communication design with these whānau to ensure their information is collected and knowledge is transferred and disseminated in ways that are meaningful to them and are understood and useful to other whānau.
