Lay summary
This project is about the multiple perspectives and understandings of wai and au for whānau wellbeing. Multiple domains of health and well-being will be interrogated with reference to Māori health and wellbeing conceptual models. This collaborative review will illustrate the mātauranga-ā-iwi associated with wai and au, informed by the Māori language, deities, people, places, and the natural environment, to inform whānau well-being and Māori and health advancement.
The collaborative review will provide a comprehensive analysis of texts such as policy documents, archival materials, wānanga notes (pūrākau and kōrero), written and oral mōteatea, and karakia to identify occurrences of the terms wai and au within specific contexts, and to ascertain their potential relationships to whānau wellbeing. The collaborative review will be shared at wānanga-ā-whānau hui, and then prepared for publication in a peer reviewed journal, and to also inform a larger collaborative HRC proposal.
