Lay summary
Very little is known about the state of Pacific addiction services in New Zealand. Alcohol, illicit drugs, gambling and tobacco rates continue to increase for Pacific communities at an alarming rate. This project will explore the state of Pacific addiction services in New Zealand with the intention of identifying what are the key addiction issues affecting Pacific people and why Pacific people do not access addiction services. Our aim is to work with a Pacific primary healthcare service, South Seas Healthcare, about investigating key issues for alcohol, illicit drugs, gambling and tobacco. We hope to develop better health outcomes, accessible and Pacific culturally appropriate health service deliveries to meet the needs of our Pacific communities.
