Lay summary
This research project aims to develop an approach that supports whānau (families) in accessing and using traditional Māori healing practices (rongoā), through kaupapa Māori co-design methodology. The project will be carried out in three phases: co creating the approach with whānau, delivering it, and evaluating its effectiveness in improving access to rongoā. Reconnecting with culture and traditional knowledge is crucial for Māori health. This project seeks to enhance whānau well-being and promote toiora, a journey towards holistic health. The research team will engage in discussions with whānau to assess health improvements and co-create measurable outcomes to accurately gauge the approach’s impact. The expected outcome is a culturally grounded, effective method for increasing access to rongoā, leading to better health for Māori whānau. The findings will be shared to support the revitalisation of Māori health practices.
