Lay summary
This Health Sector Research Collaboration Grant includes the following research activities:
He Pou Oranga: Developing a Framework for Integrating Technology and Health
The aim is to engage in research that promotes well-being across our population and communities, in alignment with the Bay of Plenty Strategic Health Services Plan (SHSP) 2017-2027 and Te Toi Ahorangi – 2030 Toi Ora Strategy. Our stakeholder partners in the community will be key to success. In addition, our community itself will have a voice in the intended research. BOPDHB has committed to taking a new approach to delivering healthcare in the BOP region by redesigning the way in which the Bay’s health Services are planned, funded and delivered through closer engagement with the people who use our services. Our activities will shape our research agenda over the next 12-18 months.
Exploring the use of technology (LifeCurve App) to promote wellbeing among Māori
This CDA will explore utility of a healthcare App for Māori living in the Bay of Plenty. This will involve engaging with stakeholders both in the community and in the health care system. The purpose of the App is to improve the health and wellbeing of people but it has been designed in the United Kingdom and we do not know if it is suitable for people in New Zealand specifically our Māori populations. This grant will allow CDA recipient Leigh Haldane to develop research skills in community engagement as well as Kaupapa methodologies.
Developing skills and expertise in Kaupapa Māori research methodology
The proposed activity for this CDA is to support the He Pou Oranga approach to integrated service development at the Bay of Plenty DHB. The placement is an investment in Māori health research capacity across disciplines and the sector developing a Kaupapa Māori Research and Toi Ora knowledge base that will contribute to Toi Ora. Due to the nature of this CDA (kaupapa Māori) CDA recipient Mariana Hudson will be jointly hosted by Bay of Plenty DHB and Manawaora / The Centre for Health (MTCFH). Both organisations will be actively involved in mentoring and her career development. Mariana will actively participate in both the Relationship Development and Priority Setting approaches outlined in the activation activity (He Pou Oranga: Developing a Framework for Integrating Technology and Health) being undertaken by Bay of Plenty DHB.
