A development grant application is sought to develop a study application for a full Nga Kanohi Kitea Project Grant. The full study seeks to investigate the health benefits of karanga for wahine Maori. The study adopts a kaupapa Maori methodology, gathering information about the health benefits of karanga through hapu o Nga ti Whatua purakau. A discussion schedule will guide the purakau as well as the analysis of the findings. Analysis of the data will look for themes or codes illuminating the health benefits identified by hapu. Wide ranging consultation has taken place and will continue to take place when the study proceeds. Dissemination of the findings will be through participating hapu, study investigators, iwi and health networks, and through peer-reviewed publications and conferences.
