Lay summary
Over the past 12 months, Māori and iwi researchers around Taranaki Mounga have discussed a need to bring together a collective of Māori researchers that will work collaboratively through the strengthening of Māori health research within the region. Tu Tama Wāhine o Taranaki will provide a series of wānanga across the Taranaki region that will provide opportunities for marae, hapū, iwi and the wider Māori community to engage in research training and development opportunities. Each wānanga will include 40 to 50 participants. The wānanga series will include the following:
- Kaupapa Māori theory and praxis
- Kaupapa Māori methodology
- Kaupapa Māori methods: Qualitative
- Kaupapa Māori methods: Quantitative
- Māori health research project and proposal development
Participants will learn how to develop skills that are grounded within a Kaupapa Māori approach and are informed by tikanga and mātauranga of the Taranaki region.
