Lay summary
This research is an evaluation of the outcomes of community building processes among four hapu on the East Coast who have engaged in hapu development planning to implement health promotion activities. It will describe how and whether these processes work to enhance hapu engagement in health promoting activities or improve healthier behaviours. Additionally, while there are well known Māori health promotion models, a theory or theoretical explanation for the activities of Māori engaging in health promotion to explain practise from a traditional Māori cultural framework has not yet been generated (Ratima,2010). This research will provide a context for further contributions towards a Māori health promotion theory that is unique to this and other Māori populations.
