Lay summary
Waiariki Whānau Mentoring primarily works with Ngāi Tokomatua (our whānau) who have generational connections with gangs, are poorly or inadequately housed and are generally distrustful of most organisations, including health, social, justice and government agencies. Waiariki Whānau Mentoring has been operating with whānau living on the edge of society for over five years; they are focused on improving how they practice their Te Wai Aio model of care. This grant will enable more substantial relationships with the Waiariki Whānau Mentoring teams across all sites to identify the priorities, including health priorities for their whānau and hapori. While also creating a rangahau kawa (research protocols) for future engagement with researchers.
