Lay summary
A strong Sāmoan health workforce is required to improve the wellbeing of a growing Sāmoan population within Aotearoa New Zealand (AoNZ). This population growth suggests increasing inequities in health, already experienced by Sāmoan people in AoNZ. However, a culturally aligned health workforce can improve health outcomes through their ability to share language, share culture, and bridge cultural divides. Although, the government has provided policy to increase Pasifika health workers, research is lacking in understanding the wellbeing of the Sāmoan health workforce once they are employed. A Pacific worldview with the Fa’afaletui and Interpretive Description methodologies will be used to explore the wellbeing of Sāmoan health workers. Fa’afaletui discussions will provide a collective approach incorporating varying perspectives around the Sāmoan health workforce. Through inductive thematic analysis, themes will be weaved and constructed in collaboration with the participants to find solutions to improving wellbeing for Sāmoan health workers and their communities.
