Lay summary
This Development Grant will support the planning and scoping of a broader research project based around takatāpui and Māori LGBTQIA+ social capital that will be submitted to the Health Research Council in 2024. The main aim of this wider research project is to explore takatāpui and Māori LGBTQIA+ social capital. There are three underlying research objectives: 1. To determine the nature and main characteristics of Māori social capital. 2. To determine the nature and main characteristics of takatāpui and Māori LGBTQIA+ social capital. 3. To examine the interaction of takatāpui and Māori LGBTQIA+ social capital with whanau ora. The ultimate goal of this wider project is to understand how social capital features in the strategies that takatāpui and Māori LGBTQIA+ people adopt to pursue good health, wealth and whānau ora. The project will adopt a woven qualitative approach guided by a kaupapa Māori research methodology based on raranga (weaving).
