Lay summary
This research aims to explore opportunities for digital enablement of services focused on prevention using the South Auckland Living Smokefree Service as an example. Assisting people and families to stop smoking is crucial for preventing health loss. Harnessing digital technologies (including artificial intelligence) has great potential for improving prevention services such as stop smoking services, so that more people have access to timely help to stop smoking, in ways that work for them. The research will create a service roadmap for digital enablement leading to improvements in quality of care, including efficiency, timely access, equity, and client experience. It is anticipated that harnessing digital technologies to augment smoking cessation services will have substantial benefits for health service delivery, however, it is also important to explore risks as well as opportunities, understand potential impacts on equity, and uncover implementation enablers and barriers, in order to successfully translate opportunities into practice.
