Lay summary
This qualitative research aims to explore the experiences and views of Pasifika people living with asthma with the opportunity to identify barriers and challenges experienced in managing asthma. It also aims to further explore Pasifika people’s views of using technology as a potential intervention to monitor symptoms which can help with self-management of asthma. From experience, despite treatment being readily available, some of which are being dispensed at no cost, Pasifika people continue to experience poor asthma control and exacerbations of asthma. This research aims to explore the experiences of asthma in Pasifika people; their barriers and enablers to accessing treatment and self-management, including accessing biologics; and their perceptions of innovative preventative measures such as the use of technology to assist with asthma management. The findings will inform future equity-focused interventions that can be implemented in the community to improve asthma care.
