Lay summary
The proposed study aims to address the significant gap in understanding the mental health of Pacific young adults in New Zealand. It intends to achieve this through several objectives: first, by assessing the psychological wellbeing and exploring the development of mental health issues over time within this demographic; second, by exploring the specific challenges and experiences faced by New Zealand-born Pacific young adults in relation to mental health; third, by examining comprehensive factors such as cultural identity, family dynamics, and employment influences on mental wellbeing; and finally, by gathering perspectives from participants to inform the design of mental health services and policies. Ultimately, the study seeks to produce evidence that can inform the development of strategies aimed at enhancing positive mental health and resilience among Pacific peoples, ensuring that services are culturally sensitive and effectively meet their unique needs.
