Lay summary
This DHB Research Activation Activity will explore the potential for co-location of other health interventions within a planned Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) and Atrial Fibrillation (AF) screening programme for Māori in Te Taitokerau. The feasibility, utility and acceptability of multiple co-located services will be explored through three main activities: 1) A scoping literature review with an indigenous population focus 2) Co-design of co-location interventions through interview and wānanga/hui with participants, whānau and communities 3) Health provider, including Māori provider, iwi and DHB clinician, perspectives on specific interventions and the pathways required for their success. Exploration of the potential for community-supported, well-designed and well-implemented co-interventions, with a population with known access barriers to primary and secondary care, represents an opportunity to maximise the programme’s contribution to improving equity of health outcomes. This activation project will establish a basis for the next phase of the AAA/AF research programme in Te Taitokerau.
