Lay summary
This mixed methods study, "Empowering the village to safeguard Pacific children: Big data and community-based ‘Train the Trainer’ (TTT) sexuality education," aims to enhance sexual and reproductive health education within Pacific communities. By combining quantitative and qualitative research approaches, the project seeks to identify and address the confounding variables associated with child sexual abuse notifications. Using big data analytics, the study will assess the prevalence and determinants of reported sexual abuse among Pacific children, accounting for relevant sociodemographic covariates. Concurrently, the project will implement and evaluate a community-based TTT program designed to empower local leaders to effectively deliver sexuality education. The programme's impact will be measured through pre- and post-intervention surveys, and talanoa with participants. Ultimately, this research aims to build healthier, stronger Pacific communities by promoting evidence-based changes in sexual health perceptions and policies, fostering a proactive approach to safeguarding children from abuse.
