Lay summary
Care of family and bystanders has been identified as an important factor in out-of-hospital critical events where resuscitation is terminated or not attempted by emergency ambulance services. Using qualitative methodology this study seeks to identify the experiences of New Zealand whānau/family and caregivers in out-of-hospital deaths where emergency ambulance services respond. Findings from this project aim to influence the practice and policy of emergency services in New Zealand to provide family-centred care which is culturally responsive.
