Lay summary
Kahoa (also known as lei) has evolved into several modern interpretations involving lollies, money, fast food, canned goods— even vapes. The most notable and the focus of this studentship research proposal is the kahoa lole (lolly lei). Lolly leis can encourage high sugar consumption in Pacific people. Through a literature review, we wish to determine if kahoa lole impacts Pacific people's physical well-being, healthy eating, nutrition, dental health and learning behaviour in Aotearoa/New Zealand. We aim to research literature that has engaged students, teachers, traditional leaders, elders and the Pacific community at large. This will establish what has been found and whether the impact kahoa lole have on health has been considered.
