Lay summary
In a partnership between Te Whānau ō Te Maungārongo (a kaupapa Māori family violence agency) and the University of Otago, we want to offer 6 months’ of DBT weekly skills groups to up to 15 young adults with a history of suicidality and exposure to family violence. The groups will be co-facilitated in Lower Hutt at the Te Whānau ō Te Maungārongo premises by kaimahi from the two partnership organisations. Participants will complete 3-monthly assessments across 18 months, with permission sought to access collateral information from whānau. At the end of the intervention, researchers will obtain information on intervention acceptability and feedback on the study from participants, and invite whānau to be interviewed about their experience.
