Lay summary
Public health research which uses healthcare data to develop tools to improve patient outcomes faces challenges like data scarcity, fragmentation, and bias. This proposal aims to establish a research network focused on developing data-centric AI methods to establish a strong data foundation for future healthcare research and policy development. We will also investigate developing data to support learning health systems which use data, experience and external evidence to create knowledge that is put into practice for higher quality, safer, and more efficient care. Through the use of advanced generative, we will investigate how we can develop comprehensive and representative data which integrates diverse data sources and reduces barriers and biases. This initiative will also investigate how we can develop data-centric AI systems which align with Māori data sovereignty principles and ensure inclusivity and equity.
