Lay summary
This project connects community and research to empower those residing in the rohe. To ensure a community research rōpū is beneficial to those who most require improved health, a Māori led research rōpū will be explored. The aim is to identify Kaupapa related to research and innovation that are important to the community for health and wellbeing; understand Kawa that informs key relationships amongst Iwi and across relationships; and, establish Tikanga that will guide protocol and process developments for how the community research rōpū operates. The objective is to explain the Kaupapa, Kawa and Tikanga that are important to the community, because these are taonga that require in-depth understanding. The learnings will be considered alongside Tangata te Tiriti concepts such as value, mission, and vision statements. This approach is foundational for a research rōpū to be culturally appropriate and provide independent consideration of the transformative impact of health care reforms.
