Lay summary
This is an exploratory project to understand the current landscape of health service experiences, for older people from LGBTQIA Takatāpui MVPFAFF+ (Rainbow) communities and their carers in New Zealand. This includes building networks and engaging with Rainbow older people and carers, public and private organisations working in the older Rainbow health space (e.g. Rainbow Hub Waikato, Rainbow Tick, Body Positive, Positive Women), from the ageing sector (e.g. Age Concern, New Zealand Aged Care Association, Aged Care Commissioner), health workers, and academics working in this field. A scoping literature review will be undertaken (peer-reviewed and grey literature) and listening events with a range of stakeholders and community members. Together these will guide the development of a larger study to understand what does ageing well look like for Rainbow elders and those who care for them, and the development of guidance on culturally safe care for older people from Rainbow communities.
