Lay summary
Aotearoa New Zealand, like much of the world, has an ageing population which will require both health and social support. Much research suggests that older adults prefer to age in place, although the specific definition of ‘place’ can vary from remaining in your own home to the importance of community. In this research we take an interdisciplinary approach to understand what older adults in Aotearoa value when ageing in place. This activation activity will enable us to develop and administer a pilot study, in conjunction with older adults and community groups in a suburb of Dunedin, with the aspiration to eventually conduct a nation-wide piece of research. Both the design and the data collection will be undertaken in collaboration with older adults and local support organisations, and the outcomes are expected to develop a framework which can be adjusted to geographical and demographic different contexts.
