Lay summary
The experience of Afghan refugees in New Zealand is not well understood. People arriving to New Zealand from Afghanistan are from diverse backgrounds, will have a range of health-related needs, and may face cultural, language, discriminatory and logistical barriers to accessing the healthcare system, however, this has not been formally assessed.
This descriptive survey aims to (1) identify common healthcare needs for Afghan refugee immigrants in New Zealand (2) identify how Afghan refugee immigrants have interacted with the healthcare system and accessed services in New Zealand.
Additional to describing healthcare need, the results of this survey will also describe the health delivery experience of Afghan refugees in New Zealand, allowing us to identify areas for future focus. This information is critical to direct future research and resources to the areas of greatest need and impact for the community.
