This work aims to apply the use of artificial intelligence (AI)- powered technology to advance the understanding of diet quality measurement. Our nutrition team has developed a food quality classification system called HISS (Human Interference System Score), which is based on a modified version of the NOVA classification system, and have applied a method to quantify food intake based on food quality. Subsequently, we have been developing an AI-powered mobile phone app using the HISS classification database, which is designed to measure and quantify food quality using digital photographs of food intake. We are currently undergoing a period of beta testing with this system. Our proposed research is to pilot the AI-powered app with several populations in 2024 and assess the food quality and nutrient quantity in these population groups.
