Lay summary
Our collective team of community members (Pacific People’s Health Advisory Group), primary care clinicians (members of the Alliance Health Plus Pacific Practice-Based Research Network) and University of Auckland researchers have been working together for the past three years. University researchers have provided training in basic and Pacific research methodology and important research questions have been generated by the community. Answering the first question (“How can we make it easier for our Pacific people to take gout prevention medication?”) is already underway. This proposed activation project will create an integrated blueprint and determine the future strategic direction and activities of the collective. We will develop a specific health delivery project for a grant application in 2021. The research activation activity will further support development of the relationships between community members, clinicians and researchers, to partner in collective inquiry aimed at reducing health inequalities experienced by Pacific people in South Auckland.
